Shore Osteoporosis Center

At the Shore Osteoporosis Center, our goal is to help you build stronger bones and prevent future fractures. If you are older than 50 and have had a fracture, or if you or your health care provider feel you will benefit from a bone health evaluation, we encourage you to contact Shore Osteoporosis Center at 609-365-6212 today to schedule an appointment.

The Osteoporosis Center is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary and evidence-based bone health program designed to reduce the incidence of osteoporosis-related fractures and help you remain active as long as possible.

Evaluation

Whether you are referred to Shore Osteoporosis Center by a medical provider or self-referred, you will meet with one of our providers for an evaluation.  The evaluation includes a complete history and physical examination and referral for the appropriate testing. This may include DXA (Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) scans and laboratory studies when appropriate.  The center will also coordinate care with each patient’s individual health care team.

Treatment

Although osteoporosis is not curable, it is treatable. Once a patient has been diagnosed with osteoporosis, an FDA approved medication may be prescribe. The two categories of osteoporosis medications include antiresorptive medications, which slow bone loss, and anabolic drugs, which increase the rate of bone formation. The treatment plan can also include a nutrition and exercise guide and lifestyle guidelines for preventing further bone loss. Calcium and/or vitamin D supplements along with regular physical activity are also common parts of the treatment plan.
